The Collegiate Peaks Golf Course offers a wide variety of instructional programs to meet the needs of men, women and juniors. Individual swing and short game lessons start at $45.00 for a 1/2 hour with our resident pro, Emily. Group lessons are available upon request.
Emily Smith started golfing at age 3, played her first competitive tournament when she was 7, and has been competing ever since. She earned a 6th place finish both freshman and sophomore year at the 4A State Championship and then won the 4A State Championship her junior and senior years. Emily always wanted to play competitively at a Division 1 school and after weighing scholarship offers from several schools she signed with the University of Wyoming. Emily graduated with a major in Gender and Women Studies and a minor in Family Consumer Science. Her immediate goals are to push herself as far as possible and see where golf can take her. When not practicing or teaching lessons at the Collegiate Peaks Golf Course you can find Emily on playing competitively on the Cactus Tour or in other tournaments.
Youth and High School Play
Collegiate Peaks Golf Course is proud to support our local youth. The Buena Vista High School golf team plays and practices for free during their golf season, and Larry works with several of the team’s players individually. We are home to the annual Butch Brasswell Tournament, which is played in Salida and Buena Vista consecutively during the high school golf season and includes 8-10 competing teams.
Juniors learn the basics of golf and have fun with challenging and creative teaching techniques.
Excellent instructors – Shawna Kincaid and Emily Wood. Shawna is a 4 time high school state qualifier, competed on the golf team for Southwestern all 4 years of college, and played in the NAIA national tournament in 2003. Shawna returned to B.V. to teach Middle School. She has been coaching the B.V. H.S. boys for 3 years and has helped with the junior clinic for 6 years.
